This past week has been a rough one, healthwise. It’s been years since I had a full-blown “sinus cold,” but thank goodness it was not anything more serious. For the last week, I’ve gone through the whole gamut symptoms—the vise-like pressure in my head and headache, tickly throat, marathon sneezing, non-stop runny nose, sleepless nights and coughing… Oh, the coughing! Poor Jim hasn’t gotten much sleep during the same three nights I was awake, either, but fortunately, he has the resistance to illness that I admit I have always envied. I can count on one hand the number of times he has had a cold, flu or fever of any kind in our 57 years of marriage. Fortunately, I was able to get a decent night’s sleep last night. The coughing has subsided, and today I got dressed, did some laundry, changed the bedding and got some much-needed housework done.

As miserable as I have been this week, I feel so fortunate that what I had was “just a cold.” Today, I got word of the passing of another long-time, out-of-state friend who succumbed to COVID—there have been several—and I can’t help but wish that they had all been able to put their faith in those who have spent their adult lives researching and developing the vaccines that could have saved them. We have sadly sent our condolences to their grieving families. They will be missed. May each of them rest in peace.
